American Bladesmith Society
Founded by knife making legend Bill Moran, the ABS is one of the premier if
not THE premier knifemakers and blade smiths organization in the world.
ABS offers one of the most
diverse and focused educational opportunities in the world for learning the
process of creating a forged blade. ABS regular members can qualify to
earn Master Smith status by following a program that takes most dedicated blade
makers around four years or more to complete. This process entails many
different aspects of the knife making process including the crafting of a pocket
knife or folding blade. Achieving ABS Master status carries a lot of
weight amongst other knifemakers and more importantly among serious collectors.
Members are a pat of an organization with vast amounts of craft knowledge and
are able to share in an organization that is a vital part of the promotion and
continuance of the knife making craft.
