Wenger Swiss Knife Sets Record
September 2, 2007
Starting
with a single seemingly implausible idea to put all of the Swiss Army tools into
one knife, the Wenger Company has succeeded in collecting a Guinness World
Record for "The most multifunctional penknife" This bladed behemoth
entitled the XXL toolbox features 87 tools offering 141 functions.
The mechanical feat was initiated out of just a desire to see if it could be
done, but the result was not only a record, but a knife for which collectors
around the world are clamoring. After the first knife was made, a second
one was built for a knife enthusiast, then more and more requests were made
until the knife is now a it is a production model, being currently assembled by
hand by two of the factory's knife makers. The knife is a true testament
to Wenger's innovation and has become a marketing windfall for the company, who
has received attention from much of the major media.
Name is, this knife has got it. Along with a seven blades, this knife
also has a compass, magnifying glass, a screwdriver, pliers, cigar cutter, laser
pointer and even a golf reamer. For $1,200 this knife, which weighs over a
2.5 pounds, is shipped complete with a wooden case and certificate.
For anyone shopping for the man who has everything, you can bet he doesn't have
this.
As a fan of knives, I can just hope that this will start a battle between
Wenger and Victorinox until someone comes up with a knife that makes homemade
bread and sandwiches.
