Spyderco T mag Ralph Turnball Magnet Folder
There
are a great many knife designers out there trying to grab our attention with
innovative designs and mechanisms, some artistic, some functional. Well
this Ralph Turnball creation has really grabbed my attention. The T mag
(model C115CFP) features a rare earth magnet located internally at the joining
of the blade and handle, acting as a slip joint, holding the knife open and
closed by magnetic pull. I really am eager to feel the action of this
blade and take this thing apart.
The blade is made of CPM-S30V and has a length of 2 15/16". The closed
length is 4 1/8", and overall length is 7". The weight is a very light 2.8
ounces and the handle is made of a carbon fiber. The knife comes complete
with an ambidextrous pocket clip.
The only draw back to the design I can see is if you carry a memory stick for
your computer. I can't imagine that a powerful rare earth magnet would be
beneficial to your computer data. You may want to verify if you are apt to
carry both a blade and extra memory, or you can check out the
Victorinox pocket knife
with memory stick that has both without the magnet. If you are
Spyderco collector or enthusiast though, this would seem to be a must have
anyway- just keep it away from your data, and possibly any medical devices.
If you have any data or information on this let me know at "mailchum -at- gmail
-dot- com" and I will post it for our readers. Thanks.
This new Spyderco knife though is a must for gadget nuts, and I am sure a far
amount of these knives will be taken apart as soon as they are bought by all the
curious types out there and lovers of knife mechanics. At $249.95
retail, this knife is sized and priced to be an innovative every day carry.
