Spyderco
is well known for not only their innovation, but also their ability to provide a
good pocket knife at an affordable price. Well one of their latest
creations, the Flatbyrd is both innovative an very well priced, at a MSRP of
only $33.95. The blade which is a part of their "Byrd Series" of knives
all named after birds most closely resembling the knives look, such as our
recently mentioned Cara Cara
or the Meadowlark or Robin. Why Flatbyrd you may ask. Well, this
Byrd series knife is decided flat, designed to easily fit in a back pocket,
purse or even a boot.
The knife was designed to be light, having an aluminum handle with holes
throughout that give the blade a technical look, while bringing the overall
knife weight down to a mere 2.3 ounces. The blade itself is 2.5" in length
and comes in both plain edge and combination edge edges, with a total cutting
edge length of 2 1/8", and the signature comet hole at the top of the blade.
The blade mechanism is released by a lever in the largest part of the knife
handle.
The knife is decidedly simple and has no pocket clip, adding to this knife's
most notable design feature, a compact and slim size, perfect for everyday
carry. We will continue to keep you posted on the latest offerings in the
Byrd series of everyday carry knives, and all of the Spyderco line of folders.
