Pocket Knife Foils Rapist
September 7, 2007
This new story as recently reported by the Spokesman-Review,
illustrates what a lot of of pocket knife owners already know- pocket knives
aren't just for whittling.
Many media reports have tried to attribute an increase in crime
in certain areas to knives and pocket knives. A recent report released in
Britain told of a two fold increase in the number of knife related crimes
throughout Britain, and in what is a truly senseless statement, asked the
question of why anyone would need to carry a blade. As if by outlawing
pocket knives and small carry knives (as they have done in many places with
guns), then criminals would simply throw up their hands and quit being criminals
due to a lack of lawfully available weapons. Much like the story of the
old lady that swallowed the spider, the inevitable conclusion of banning pocket
knives is folly as only law abiding citizens will be paying any attention to the
law.
Today we have a story that shows that while criminals do carry
knives, they don't much care for law abiding citizens that carry also. In
Spokane Washington a would-be rapist brandishing a knife, entered the home of a
15 year old young lady that had fallen asleep while watching her cousin.
She awoke to a knife wielding intruder, who had exposed himself and was
demanding all manner of lewd acts. Luckily, this girl had a pocket knife,
which she pulled from her pocket and scared the would-be assailant/rapist away.
He was later caught based on fingerprint evidence and sent to jail for almost
ten years. You go girl!
And if pocket knives had been banned, she most likely would not
have had one in her pocket. We would of had to hope that a rapist burglar
would have also obeyed that law.
