Kershaw Rainbow Groove Knife
September 2, 2007
SMKW showed this new model in their most recent catalog, and it has a unique
look, which is similar to Kershaws previous three iridescent knives. This new
pocket knife does have a more masculine style handle with black scales over the
iridescent coated steel to balance out the rainbow look of the blade, and with a
blade that has been machined with 3D grooves or striations underneath the
iridescent blade coating, giving the blade an eye catching patterned look.
The previous Rainbow knives were frankly just a little too rainbow colored.
While the new Model 1700VIB knife has some black on the handle, the previous
version had no separate color to break up the overwhelming iridescence.
The previous models including the Rainbow Chive 1600VIB, Rainbow Leak 1660VIB
and the Rainbow Leak Serrated 1660VIBST all featured a handle entirely of
titanium oxide coated 410 stainless steel. The new version also appears to
be a little larger at 4.5" closed where the previous Rainbow Leeks were 4"
closed and the diminutive rainbow Chive had a blade of only 1 15/16" and a
closed length of only 2 7/8"
The changes made by Kershaw to the previous knife design, including a longer
blade and a little more style to the handle, will no doubt bring more knife
enthusiasts to take a look at this eye catching knife.
