Kershaw Nakamura 1480 Pocket Knife
September , 2007
I am a big fan of quince wood, and this pocket knife has used this great
handle wood masterfully. This particular knife has the look of an art
piece, with subtle lines and colors that give the knife a striking and balanced
look. The handle has a gentle curve that blends the quince wood into the
bolster, which is the part of the knife that ties the this knife together.
The bolster looks like it has been engraved, when it is actually 19 layers of
steel and various colored copper, crafted so that the copper is exposed as
intricately decorative lines that creatively tie the exotic wood and stainless
blade together.
The 2 7/8" blade has a core of VG10 stainless that is clad in 420J2
stainless, which gives the blade a sharp edge that keeps an edge well. The
knife is 3 7/8" closed and has a weight of around 3.2 ounces. This
knife is definitely sized to be an everyday carry and with a retail price of
$189.95, this knife is also priced to carry. The knife comes complete with a
removable pocket clip, and locking liner.
In this knife, Kershaw has created a perfect carry for someone that wants a
knife with an intricate and custom look at a fair price. The knife has
great curves and a simple blade that brings the focus to the handle and the
bolster, where it belongs. I am a big fan of this knife, and expect
it to sell well. Kudos Kershaw!
