Fallkniven U2 Pocket Knife
September 7, 2007
Today
we take a look at the a knife from Fallkniven of Sweden. Although this
pocket knife has a very simple and uneventful look to it, it represents a first
in the knife industry. This inconspicuous looking creation is actually the
first folding knife with a blade of laminate powder steel, the market innovation
Super Gold Powder Steel or SGPS, according to Fallkniven.
While powder steel is expensive and poses challenges that
require a great deal of experience, the upside to this material is that it is an
absolutely first rate blade material. The result is a blade that is
extremely hard (62 HRC) and has an excellent ability to hold and edge.
The knife features a simple lockback, that registers with a
distinct and reliable click sound when the blade is fully open. The handle
is black and is made of a composite material called Zytel that makes the
knife light (1.5 ounces) and offers sufficient grip. A knife this light
and sharp makes a great carry.
This knife is decidedly simple, yet performs masterfully.
such expert engineering what appears to be just an everyday folder has great
appeal to the engineer in me, and will equally appeal to anyone who desires
function above frill. Fallkniven is on the front end of blade technology,
and has created a knife for people who desire utility and results.
