CRKT Van Hoy Snap Fire Folder
September 2, 2007
Today we take a look back at an innovative knife that has found its way into
a great many pockets; the Van Hoy Snap Fire. This knife has been inspired
by Ed van Hoy, who walked away with two prestigious awards in two years for his
Damascus Snap fire which showcased his mechanical innovation in a beautiful
form. His first award came at the 2004 Knifemaker's Guild Show in which Ed
won Most Innovative Knife, and then Ed followed that up with the 2005 Blade Show
Imported Knife of the Year.
CRKT managed to take this innovative design and improve upon it by
incorporating its LAWKS knife safety. Ed's truly original design featured
a movable blade pivot, allowing the the blade to open in a way that had never
before been achieved and allowing Ed to receive a patent. The
collaboration between Ed and CRKT brought to the market a knife like no other in
the world.
The Snap Fire has a thumb wheel that is stainless with a titanium nitride
coating. The opening mechanism alone has brought many people to purchase
this knife, but the look of this knife is unmistakably unique also, which brings
one to wonder if the knife has sold well do to its brilliance or its beauty.
And for all those who like a more tactical look to their pocket knives, CRKT
introduced a version last year that is black on black with all black hardware.
If you have failed to purchase one of these knives over he last few years,
you may want to look at adding one of these to your collection. The knife
comes in a plain or partially serrated edge, as well as a pocket clip, and can
now be bought for around 60 dollars.
