September 2, 2007
Even if you have already seen this knife, it is worth another look.
Buck creates limited edition knives each year in which they feature exotic
handle materials and high quality blades combined with sleek new designs.
The Buck Giraffe and Mokume Alpha Dorado Model 271LE1 knife is a particular
curvaceous beauty was sold in a limited edition production of 1,000 knives all
serialized.
The knife is not your typical Buck in that it will fit in your pocket and
even small pockets. It measures only 4" closed and the blade is 2.5".
The blade is a mirror polished 154CM stainless steel in a Spear Point design.
Besides the beautiful curve of this knife, it is the handle that really makes
this knife impressive. It's handle is a combination of giraffe bone
accented with "Raindrop" Mokume, a distinctive swirled pattern of silver, copper
and brass. Mokume actually means wood grained metal, and the Mokume on
this knife creates a distinctive look that is normally only found in much more
expensive custom knives.
This hunting knife comes complete with a brown distresses leather sheath,
lanyard hole, a certificate of authenticity and a limited edition box.
Buck lists this knife at $ 500. You can get a standard version of this
knife with a simple black nylon sheath, charcoal birchwood sided stainless frame
and 420HC blade for around $ 70.
