Benchmade Emergency Tool ERT-1
September 12, 2007
Benchmade
makes waves again with one of their latest creations. Since introducing
their emergency response tool the ERT-1, Benchmade has received a flood of
positive response, punctuated earlier this summer with a win at the Shooting
Industry Academy of Excellence Award Ceremony for the Safety Product of the
Year.
Unlike other safety knifes and tools we have written about recently, like the
Gerber rescue knife for
firefighters and the Victorinox rescue
tool, this particular tool has a much simpler, yet elegant design with two
unique features, a spring loaded glass breaker and a submersible light, which
illuminates the tip of the curved blade. The glass breaker is operates by
pressing the handle against the glass, discharging the internal punch, which is
sufficient to shatter many types of glass. This is perfect not only for
car accidents, but for rescue workers trying to help remove children from locket
cars. Benchmade's engineers additionally incorporated a 0.50" rescue hook
blade, perfect as a seatbelt cutter, secured with a lock back mechanism.
Part of Benchmade's Red Class, this emergency response tool comes complete
with a nylon case, a removable tip down carry clip, and a limited lifetime
warranty. The closed length of only 4.67" and a weight of only 3.6 ounces
makes this rescue tool perfect for a glove box or your pocket. This tool
has already become adopted by many paramedics, firefighters and police officers,
and will no doubt become a staple in many safety conscience people's glove
boxes. The tool comes in black (10105-BLK) and yellow (10105-YEL) and retails
for $40.00. A great price for an award winning rescue tool.
